And Jane Addams, though she did a lot of great stuff (if I remember right from history classes), she didn’t question the core issues at the heart of what she was trying to solve. Like many activists (including many today, however dedicated and brave they may be), she didn’t question our death culture itself, and its foundations. As important as her work may have been, she could have done so much more had she looked deeper, faced the truth that civilization itself is inherently unsustainable and exploitative, and fought to dismantle not just systems of oppression etc that it props up, but more importantly the very foundation, civilization.
